Google’s new tech will help you read Doctor’s illegible handwriting
The saying “you write like a doctor” to a person with illegible handwriting did not arise from scratch. With all due respect to medical professionals, the situation can be not just unpleasant, but dangerous if someone misinterprets the dosage of the drug, or if the pharmacist misinterprets and dispenses the wrong dose or another medicine with a similar name.
It appears to be an international issue. Since even Google took up the creation of an algorithm that will help decipher handwritten notes from doctors. The feature will be based on Google Lens algorithms. This application has long allowed us to recognize products, plants or animals, as well as translate text placed in front of the camera lens.
At the Google for India 2022 conference, developers demonstrated an algorithm capable of recognizing drug names and translating handwritten prescriptions into printed text that is displayed in the application.
At the moment, there are still no details on when this feature will appear in Google Lens. The company says bluntly that “a lot of work needs to be done before the system is ready for the real world.” Also, it is unlikely that it will work in all countries and in all languages at once, but it is still interesting that neural networks have begun to be involved in a similar issue.
